BC Snowboard Pathways Program (formerly the Dev Team Program)

Building on the momentum of the past two seasons of running the BC Development Team, BC Snowboard is excited to announce changes being made for Summer 2023 and beyond as we transition from the BC Development Team to the BC Snowboard Pathways Program.

We feel our new name reflects a deeper commitment to athletes, clubs, and coaches to align with Provincial Team dryland training while also providing valuable opportunities in addition to athletes existing club affiliations.

While previous camps took place at Sun Peaks Resort, this year will see 3 camps running throughout B.C., with athletes able to sign up for either the full BC Snowboard Pathways Program or one-off camps, allowing us to better serve our athletes and creating stronger connections within individual communities around the province.

The location and dates of the camps are:

  • Camp 1: Whistler, August 2nd – 5th
  • Camp 2: Kelowna, August 24th – 27th -POSTPONED due to wildfire situation, more details to follow
  • Camp 3: Sun Peaks, September 28th – October 1st

We are also working on offering 2 additional 3-day camps in Prince George and Vancouver Island with dates to be confirmed.

Activities may vary across camps however, our goals are to teach athletes correct techniques, exercises, and knowledge on specific fitness components and movements that relate to snowboarding in and out of the gym. Alongside this we will do a variety of cross over sports with a focus on team building and run a series of online nutrition and mental performance sessions.

Online sessions will be open to all, however athletes who sign up for one off camp will be required to pay an additional fee to attend.

The requirements to register for the BC Snowboard Pathways Program are:

  • Hold an active BC Snowboard Recreational Membership
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Between the age range of 9-16
  • Athletes who were apart of the BC Development Team program last season but are now outside of the age range are still able to apply.
  • Pay the registration fee of $850, which includes
    • Online sessions
    • Access to all camps, including additional camps in Prince George and on Vancouver Island

The requirements to sign up for BC Pathways Program one-off camps are:

  • Purchase a BC Snowboard Recreational Membership
  • Be a Canadian citizen
  • Between the age range of 9-16
  • Pay the individual camp fee of $400
  • There is an additional fee of $100 to attend online session series.

In addition to dry land camps, we are exploring on-snow training opportunities for early in the season and during specific BC Snowboard Provincial Series events, with additional costs to be determined.

2024 BC WINTER GAMES

As the age group of the BC Snowboard Pathways Program and Camps fits within the BC Winter Games, participation in the program and/or camps will be used as a contributing factor in selecting athletes to represent their Zones for the next BC Winter Games in Quesnel (Feb 24) in conjunction with their event results.

Athletes who do not participate in the BC Pathways Program and/or camps will still be eligible for selection to the BC Winter Games.

Where participation in the BC Snowboard Pathways Program and Camps will be used for selection, is if a tie has occurred between two athletes in the same zone.

Event results and number of events attended will continue to be the primary factor in selection to the BC Winter Games.
